There was a king named Nala. He had a queen named Damayanti. One day an old woman came below the palace who was distributing the thread of Sampada Mata and telling the story. There was a big crowd there. All the women were taking the thread.
The queen looked from above and said to the maid - go below and see what the crowd is for? So she looked and came back and said that an old woman is distributing the thread of Sampada, which brings wealth and prosperity.
That thread is made of raw cotton with sixteen threads and sixteen knots, dyed in turmeric, and after performing the ritual, taking sixteen fresh barley grains in hand and listening to the story of Sampada Mata, it is tied around the neck.
Then the queen also worshipped the thread and tied it to her necklace. When the king came from outside, seeing the thread, he said - Queen, what have you tied in the necklace today?
So the queen said that I have tied the thread of Sampada Mata. This increases wealth and prosperity. Then the king said that we already have a lot of wealth and saying this, the king threw the thread away.
That same night in a dream, Sampada Mata said - King, I am Sampada. That is why I am leaving. Your wealth will turn into coal. Waking up in the morning when the king saw, all the wealth had turned into coal.
Then the king said - Queen, we will leave a Brahmin's girl here, who will light the lamp here every day, fill water, sweep the house, and stay in the house, and we will go and live in another village.
When they reached the pond, the king brought two partridges there for the queen and said - you roast and keep them. I will just take a bath and come. The queen roasted the partridges, then when both sat to eat, the partridges flew away.
So the king and queen reached his sister's place. The sister accommodated them in an old house. When the king and queen went into the sister's house, her golden calf and heifer were lying there. The ground swallowed them. So the king said to the queen - let's leave from here, otherwise the blame for theft will fall on our heads, and both left from there.
From there they went to the king's friend's place, so he accommodated them in an old palace. When they went there, a necklace worth one and a quarter crores was hanging on a peg. A peacock was made there. It swallowed the necklace. Then the king and queen said - let's leave from here too, otherwise the blame for the theft of the necklace will fall on our heads.
Then the queen said - instead of going to anyone's house, we will fill our stomachs by cutting and selling wood in the forest. They reached a dry garden, and the garden became green. The owner of the garden became very happy.
He saw a man and a woman sleeping there. Waking them up, the owner of the garden asked - who are you due to whom this twelve-year-old dry garden became green? So the king and queen said - we are travelers, we have come in search of work, and they started working there.
The gardener's wife said to the queen - you just go and sell flower garlands in the market. One day the gardener's wife was listening to the story and taking the thread. On being asked, she told the queen that this is the thread of Sampada. She listened to the story and took the thread.
The king asked his wife - whose thread have you tied? So the queen said that this is the same thread. You had broken and thrown it away once. For that reason, Goddess Sampada is angry with us. The queen said - if Sampada Mata is true, then our good days will return just like before.
That same night, a woman came in the king's dream just like before and was saying - I am leaving. The second one was saying - I am coming back. The king asked the names of both, so the one who was coming told her name as Lakshmi and the one who was leaving said - I am poverty.
So the king asked - how will I know. Then Sampada said - when you go to draw water from the well in the morning, whatever comes out the first time, a lump of turmeric the second time, raw cotton will come out the third time. Sampada Mata gave them a lot of wealth.
Then the king and queen said - now our twelve years are completed and good days have come, so we are going to our home. Then the gardener's wife gave them a lot of wealth.
From there they reached his friend's place. So the friend king accommodated them in his new palace, then the king said - accommodate us at the same place where you accommodated us before. Going there they saw that the necklace which the peacock had swallowed was hanging on the peg and their stain of blame was removed.
From there they went to the sister's place, so the sister asked them to stay in the new palace. Then the king and queen said - accommodate us at the same place where you accommodated us before. When they went there, the earth gave back the calf and heifer it had swallowed, so the king said to the queen - now our good days have come.
From there the king and queen reached the bank of the lake where both partridges are lying. They understood that these are the same partridges that had flown away.
From there the king and queen went towards their palace, then saw that the door which had become crooked had become fine, the golden jug had come, the twig for cleaning teeth became green, the Brahmin's daughter whom they had left to light the lamp, they made her their adopted daughter, gave her a lot of wealth and married her off, and the queen performed the Udyapan (concluding ritual) of Sampada Mata.
Fed sixteen Brahmin women, gave sixteen things, prepared a kitchen of halwa and puri. O Sampada Mata, the way you got angry with the king first, do not get angry with anyone like that. The way you gave back the glory to the king, give it to everyone. Afterwards, tell the story of Bindayak Ji.
