|| Bhagavad Gita ||
The seventeenth chapter, 'Shraddha-Traya-Vibhaga Yoga', analyses the three kinds of faith — sattvic, rajasic and tamasic. Arjuna asks about the state of those who worship with faith but without following scripture. Krishna replies that faith accords with one's nature — 'as is a person's faith, so is he'. He then classifies food, sacrifice, austerity and charity each into three types. He also explains the three levels of austerity — of body, speech and mind. The chapter closes with the meaning of 'Om Tat Sat' — the threefold name of Brahman — and the teaching that any act done without faith is 'Asat', bearing no fruit here or hereafter.
